Step 5 of the National League System
Step 5 consists of 16 separate regional leagues, which all house 20 teams each. Each team in the league will play their games against an opponent in their own or similar location. For instance, teams in the Combined Counties League Premier Division North will consist mainly of teams from the north west and central parts of Wales.
Two teams earn promotion to step 4, the 16 champions of each separate league and whichever team wins the four-team play-offs from each league. However, those promotions have to be confirmed by the NLS committee before the clubs are allowed to play at the higher step.
When it comes to relegation, two clubs from each division are relegated to tier 6. The teams that are demoted are arranged according to separate agreements with the Step 6 leagues.
