Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division
Operating at National Feeder League level of the English Football Pyramid, the Wiltshire Senior League Premier Division is a crucial bridge between local district football as well as the Southwest regional semi-professional game.
Having been founded in 1976, the league’s aim was to provide a higher level of competition than many other district leagues, that included the Trowbridge & District or Salisbury & District leagues.
Original members for the inaugural season had clubs such as Avon Bradford, Melksham Town Reserves and Sanford and, despite being a single division, the league expanded to include a Division One and Division Two in the eighties. Despite this, it was consolidated later back to a single division ‘Premier’ format in order to sustain high National Feeder League standards.
Furthermore, during the late 2010s, the league modernised its administration and integrated more heavily with the Wiltshire County FA as a result, which saw refereeing and ground grading streamlined.
An official feeder to the Hellenic League Division One and Wessex League Division One, which both sit at Step 6, the champions of the division are eligible for promotion to Step 6, though they must meet Grade H ground and facility criteria, with this often including mandatory hardstanding and floodlight requirements.
Moreover, the league is fed by the Trowbridge & District League in addition to the Salisbury & District League.

Over the decades, the Wiltshire Senior League has developed a reputation for developing clubs that move onto national non-league fame. Melksham Town, for example, spent their early years in the Wiltshire Senior League, prior to moving up through the tiers, while Corsham Town are a considerable ‘success story’ of the pyramid, having advanced through the league to the Hellenic Premier, while competing to a high level in the FA Vase.
There is also Highworth Town; another notable club that used the league as a base to successfully reach the Southern League, while Pewsey Vale is a club with deep roots, known for their “The Recreation Ground” home, frequently switching between Step 6 and Step 7.
