The Premier Division is a feeder league for the Northern Football League, which is the second oldest known football league after the English Football League.

Each season, a club is eligible for promotion to Step 6 of the NAS. The team that wins in the league will move up a step, but only if they meet the higher league’s eligibility rules. If they don’t qualify, then the team that finished the highest of the top five and that fits the eligibility criteria earns promotion.

If no team is eligible, then no team is promoted. This has happened in recent seasons to Boro Rangers, who we will talk about further when talking about successful teams in the Premier Division. However, they eventually gained access to Step 6 in 2022. When it comes to who is relegated, individual leagues and FAs are in charge of proceedings.

Successful Clubs in the North Riding League Premier Division

Despite its short history, there is one team that can claim to be the most successful in the league so far, and that team is Boro Rangers. They won the inaugural three titles in the 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2021-22 seasons.

Rangers were ineligible to move up to Step 6 after winning the first two titles. However, in 2022, they were finally promoted to the Northern Football League.

Boro Rangers’ reserve team also featured in the Premier Division in season 2024/25, finishing second, while their Woman’s team is also in the Women’s Premier Division.
