Manchester League Premier Division Details

manchester football leagueThe Manchester Football League began life in 1893. However, it endured a short hiatus from 1912 until 1920, with the First World War from 1914 to 1918 a big factor in the break. Many clubs have featured in the league, with some clubs enjoying massive success in the division.

When it comes to promotion, the Premier Division is a feeder league to the North West Counties League. The team that finishes top of the table at the end of the season earns automatic promotion to the North West Counties League First Division North or South, depending on which is applicable to the club’s location.

Another promotion spot may be available through the three-team play-off, which usually includes teams finishing from second to fourth place in the season. However, this is not guaranteed.

As is typically the case with most leagues, the promoted teams have to meet the safety standards of the higher league to play there.

When we look at the other end of the table, the teams finished in the bottom two spots are relegated to the First Division. Clubs may also be demoted if their stadiums no longer fit the mandatory safety requirements of the Premier Division. Clubs may avoid relegation if, for instance, a club in the league withdraws or folds.
