Liverpool County Premier League Premier Division
The Liverpool County Premier League is part of the feeder leagues system, formerly step seven of the National League System and the 11th tier of English football overall. The competition contains clubs based in Merseyside.
The league consists of three separate divisions: the Premier Division, the Championship Division, and the Conference Division.
The Liverpool County Premier League was established in 2006 when the I Zingari League and the Liverpool County Football Combination merged into one.
Teams from within the league set-up can also participate in cup competitions such as the Peter Coyne/George Mahon Cup, Zingari Challenge Cup, Roy Wade Cup and the Lord Wavertree Cup.
Promotion and relegation
The Premier Division is a feeder league for the National League system, with teams from the top tier of the league winning promotion to the North West Counties League Division One North and South.
Promotion to Step Six is not as simple as in other leagues in the Premier Division. It is not necessarily the team that finishes at the top of the table that claims promotion. If the team finishes top and meets the requirements of the league above, then it will be promoted.
However, if it doesn’t, then the promotion spot will go to the team that finishes highest in the league’s top five.
Teams who are relegated from the Premier Division are relegated to the Championship Division.
Who has been the most successful club in the Premier Division?
Since the Liverpool County Premier League was established in 2006, Waterloo Dock has been the most successful club in terms of championships, winning the top-tier title six times. However, five of their six titles came in a row of five straight titles from 2006 until 2011.
The only other club to win more than one Premier Division title is Aigburth People’s Hall, who have claimed the title on five occasions. Aigburth won four straight titles from 2013 until 2017.
