Hertfordshire Senior County League
The Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division is a feeder league (formerly step 7) of the National League System and level 11 of the overall English football pyramid.
The Hertfordshire Senior County League as a whole was founded in 1898 and features teams from the local area. The Premier Division is the top of six divisions in the Hertfordshire Senior County League system, with 16 teams in the top flight. However, there are 33 clubs overall in the six divisions.
The top two divisions are made up of senior teams, while the bottom four operate as reserve or development leagues. The league also operates a cup competition called the ‘Aubrey Cup’.
How does the Hertfordshire Senior County League work?
The Premier Division is the feeder league for the Spartan South Midlands Football League. Only one team wins automatic promotion from the top tier to the next level. However, as is always the case with clubs below the English Football League, promotions are dependent on meeting the requirements for the higher division.
If the team that ends the season as champions does not meet the requirements of the higher league, then the next eligible team up to fifth place can win automatic promotion.
The clubs that finish 14th, 15th and 16th place in the table are relegated from the Premier Division to Division One.
Teams that are relegated from Division Six go down to the Hertford and District Football League, which is level 13 overall of the English football pyramid.
