Central Midlands Alliance League South Division

The Central Midlands Alliance League Premier South Division is a football league situated in the northeast-central region of England.

It operates as a feeder league of the National League System, making it the 11th tier of English football overall. The South Division is part of a comprehensive 92-league system, which includes seven separate divisions.

More Information on the Division

It encompasses areas in the English counties of Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, and Staffordshire. Additionally, some clubs from the Sheffield area participate in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Football League.

Despite the league as a whole starting in 1971, the Premier South Division only came to be in 1991, when the league contained just three divisions: Supreme, Premier North and Premier South.

From 1992/93 to 2010/11, the league returned to a two-division system, with the two main divisions being the Supreme and Premier Divisions.

Ahead of the 2011/12 season, the league returned to two regional divisions. The South Division has been in constant play since then, and additional divisions were added in the subsequent years.

The Central Midlands Alliance League South Division, like its Northern counterpart, serves as a feeder league for the Northern Counties League.

In terms of promotion, the team that finishes highest among the top five in the North Division and meets the eligibility criteria will be promoted to either the Northern Counties East League Division One or the United Counties League Division One. If no club can meet the eligibility requirements, then no team will be promoted.

When it comes to relegation, teams are relegated to one of the Division One leagues. Usually, the league to which they are relegated is determined by the club’s location, although the availability of each division often dictates it.

Every club in the Central Midlands Alliance League South Division is eligible to participate in the yearly Central Midlands League Challenge Cup. Since 2001, the final of this competition has been held at the North Street Stadium, the home ground of Alfreton Town.

Notable Teams in the Premier South Division

Since the restructuring of the South Division ahead of the 2011/12 season, not many clubs have managed to dominate the division. Only one club, Selston, has managed to win the title twice, with the triumphs coming in seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17.

Like all divisions in non-league football, the Premier South Division was heavily affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic, as the 2019/20 season was abandoned and the following campaign curtailed due to lockdowns.
