Central Midlands Alliance League North Division

The Central Midlands Alliance League North Division is a football league that covers the northeast-central part of England. It is a feeder league of the National League System and the 11th tier of English football overall. The North Division is part of a 92-league system, with seven different divisions.

central midlands alliance leagueThe Central Midlands Alliance League started life in 1971 as the South Derbyshire League. However, 12 years later, in 1983, the league’s name changed to Central Midlands League. The league covers parts of the English counties of Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Staffordshire. However, some Sheffield clubs also take part in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Football League.

Despite the league as a whole starting in 1971, the North Division only came to be in 1991, when the league contained just three divisions: Supreme, Premier North and Premier South. However, from 1992/93 to 2010/11, the league returned to a two-division system, with the two main divisions being the Supreme and Premier Divisions.

However, ahead of the season 2011/12, the league returned to two regional divisions, with the North Division being in constant play since and extra divisions was added in the subsequent years.

The Central Midlands Alliance League North Division is a feeder league for the Northern Counties League. When it comes to promotion, the team that finishes highest in the top five of the North Division and is eligible are promoted to the Northern Counties East League Division One or the United Counties League Division One. If no club fits the eligibility criteria, then nobody is promoted.

When it comes to relegation, teams are usually relegated to Division One North. Still, they could be relegated to one of the other regional Division Ones if there is not enough space in the applicable division.

Every club from the Central Midlands Alliance League North Division are also eligible to take part in the annual Central Midlands League Challenge Cup. The final of the competition has been held at the North Street Stadium, Alfreton Town’s home ground since 2001.

With the North Division not being that old, there are not many teams that have enjoyed multiple successful seasons. In fact, no club has won the North Division title on multiple occasions since its reintroduction in season 2011/12.
